Brett Kavanaugh & The Measure Of Sexism & Privilege #128

Brett Kavanaugh is up for a job in the highest court of the land; the Supreme Court. This is where the top lawyers and judges have been voted into a lifetime appointment to make decisions of the entire land that affect all 330+ million citizens of the nation. So, of course, Donald Trump, our president at the moment, would scour the country for the most elite judge in all 50 states who exemplifies American values and an unbiased attitude toward the law. He’d find the perfect person to represent the country and protect the Constitution with a clear head and sound mind. Well…he found Brett Kavanaugh.

Who Is Brett Kavanaugh?

Kavanaugh is the Yale graduate-turned-judge who has recently, like Trump, been accused of sexual assault of Christine Blasey Ford in 1982. This job interview had Ford speak to the best of her recollection the events back then recounting the assault. Anybody who has ever talked to a person sexually assaulted, violated, raped, molested, etc. know they wind up going through a range of emotions when discussing it. Many times, the moment is so shocking, the mind may block it out. Other times, emotional damage is done moving forward. Some even have time loss.

Blame The Victim

Instantaneously, people began to put blame on Christine Ford for even coming forward. “Why did she wait 30 years?” “Why now?” “This is just a plant from the Democrats to derail Kavanaugh.” The comments, mostly from the Right seemed to lack sympathy for the woman telling her story softly to a wall of White men protected by a single White woman asking questions. These men, who vehemently publicly yelled their distaste of the daring of a woman placed in front to explain her sexual assault to them: especially the detestable rodent-troll, Lindsey Graham.

The fact these same White Republicans stand for a man who’s job interview left him sobbing over calendars, yelling out loud over the accusation, claiming his lifelong love of beer, and blaming “the left”, “the Clintons”, and swearing revenge/karma on them. THIS is the “unbiased” and “stable” man they want on the Supreme Court. If 20 minutes of a speech left him in tears and red from screaming out loud, while spitting conspiracy theories, how could he possibly be expected to rule on some of the most difficult cases in the land?

Then again, these same people propping and shoving Kavanaugh through the land, openly supported Roy Moore, the accused child molester who ran for political office in Alabama. They also supported Trump who has 19 sexual accusers of his own. They’ve also set precedent to support separation of immigrants at the border – all while claiming themselves as the party of family values. And now, they’ve openly dismissed Christine Ford’s testimony over Brett Kavanaugh’s tears. Sure, it’s possible Kavanaugh is innocent of these charges. But in his job interview, he is still being considered highly by the Senate Judicial Board because he acts just like they do.

Kavanaugh Vs. Women

When Senator Amy Klouchar (an interviewer) asked about Brett Kavanaugh’s drinking habits, he retorted “Have you (had blackouts)?” and “And I’m curious if you have (had blackouts)”? Although, he apologized, his instability reared it’s ugly face. If he’s like this sober, can you imagine him drunk and horny? Just saying…

Christine Ford’s soft-spoken demeanor with her obviously uncomfortable retelling of her rape vs. Brett Kavanaugh’s screaming and uncontrollable sobbing were two sided coins. Imagine if Dr. Ford came out blazing with tears of sadness and rage of pain in front of all of those men? Imagine Kavanaugh’s testimony filled with soft-spoken mousey vibes. She’d be called a “bitch” and he’d be sympathized…as he is even when he yells. His privilege is a shield he’s wielded since the drinking days of the “Beach Week Ralph Club” and this past week is the first time he’s had to face consequences. And they were by a woman.

Let’s talk a bit about Brett Kavanaugh, sexism, and privilege in this podcast episode!
