Deadpool left us last time in stitches. It took a couple of years for those wounds to heal and again…he’s cutting up again and we left in even MORE stitches than before! Call the medic! Ryan Reynolds has mastered the Merc with the Mouth character and in case you felt he couldn’t match his incredible $800 million+ debut as the lead character, well..you’d be mistaken. He takes this one a little further and still kept the comedy going.
Despite revealing to his girlfriend his alter ego and having a strange relation with Colossus, Deadpool seemed to continue with his work as a soloist in the mercenary business. His relationship has blossomed to the point of considering family and that’s when things catch up to him and he goes off the rails a bit. Even the opening is foretold a bit before getting into the action. Deadpool’s reasoning for going off the rails is legitimate and since we don’t like spoilers, we won’t give them to you. But it forces him to open up a bit and when his friend, Colossus, comes to get him and make him one of the X-Men, he’s hesitant. The whole scene in the X-Men mansion will leave you looking at things and people you never thought you’d see in a Deadpool film,…and then you realize, it’s a damn Deadpool film!
The surprise to those who love comics and even those unaware is that the comedy holds up enough to not even care! We get to see some more of Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her new lady, Yukio (who has a funny relationship via greeting with Deadpool). But one of the funniest scenes has to be the entire X-Force crew who go through a recruiting process thanks to LinkedIn. The characters they get are awesome enough such as Domino, who is a badass, Vanisher (who’s reveal cracked…us…up!!), Zeitgeist, Weasel, Bedlam, and Peter. What happens to the team is even funnier considering they were all formed to defeat a menacing mercenary from the future, Cable (Josh Brolin). The surprises don’t stop with Brolin and of course Reynolds breaking the 4th wall with Avengers: Infinity War quips, but there’s actually some emotion weaved into the storyline a bit that makes Deadpool an even more sensitive and relatable character despite how many bulletholes he puts in people.
Finally…make sure you stay for the end credits and the end song. I won’t reveal who the big guy behind the huge door is but just believe he’s a big baddy that deserved a redo a’la the touch of Marvel. I don’t know how much they advised Marvel but Sony got this guy right! Unfortunately (and fortunately) this Deadpool character is so good, Marvel won’t see him fighting along the Avengers anytime soon. The mid credits wraps things up so quickly and makes Ryan Reynolds self-reflect in the most Deadpool ways! And although there are no final-end credits, stay just to hear the song before they wrap it up!
There are too many directions to go without adding spoilers so I’ll just end it here. Go see this movie! It’s one of the best sequel’s you’ll see and if Cable isn’t as much badass as you wanna see, just check the powers of everybody involved! It’s a mutant-fest with so much hilarity thrown around! I didn’t know I’d still be laughing on a Thursday damn near through midnight!
