Opioid addiction has grown into a full-blown health crisis affecting this country. The question we are asking is “Why is this important to Americans now?” Politicians are suddenly changing their rhetoric from “Fighting the war on drugs” to “We must help Americans recover from opioid addiction.” Previous administrations, such as Nixon and Reagan, created their legacies by developing laws to imprison addicts and offer little to no help for their recovery.
Endless Cycle?
This fed the cycle of drug dependency and incarceration of citizens for decades. Within the last 5 years, the face of drug addiction has changed from poor, black and brown people to the white, middle-class mom next door. Is this the reason for the sudden change of heart? Let’s talk about this.
