Welcome Dr. Nancy MacLean
Dr. Nancy MacLean, author of Democracy in Chains phoned into our podcast and broke down how the right-wing faction has radicalized into our daily lives. From gerrymandering to the influence of the Koch brothers, she explained how the Right’s mission to alter and even in some cases eliminate democracy is the plan for political influencers.
How Has the Right Radicalized?
The Duke University professor isn’t shy about her beliefs and has gone back to the 1970s to explain where the radicalization of the right had begun to influence current political climates. Dr. MacLean’s research has led up to this day and explains how the effects in the Trump administration prove her theories true. In the podcast, she states where this ideology stands. “We have a very radicalized right and then what we have the rest of the spectrum from moderate to far left that is aroused because they’re understanding that something really unsettling has been happening to our democracy.”
We discussed how the midterms worked in the favor of the Republicans where they redistricted areas Democrats, people of color, and young people neglected to vote and gerrymandered them for themselves. As an historian, Dr. MacLean outlined bits of her book where one can research it’s authenticity but will be met with documented proof.
Arizona Has Adopted This Radicalization
Targeting specifically at Arizona, Dr. MacLean pointed out the vouchers for private schools, Governor Doug Ducey’s loyalty to Charles Koch’s donor summits, and AZ Supreme Court overturning initiatives signed by the people to hold dark money accountable. This podcast hits a lot of points from her book and beyond.
