Movie Review: Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

It’s summer time and that means Ant-Man and the Wasp is coming to theaters! Well…we had a chance to see the movie and you know what? Marvel can do no wrong! How do you take a D-grade character from the comics like Ant-Man and make him a very likeable guy who is so enjoyable? You do it correctly as they did in the first movie along with his band of characters who are now called “The X-Cons” with their business in security. But how do you make it bad-ass? You add in Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp! Let’s go!

So, Marvel Studios is very good at keeping up with continuity. And as we last saw Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), he decided to go to Germany and fight alongside Captain America and against Iron Man which was strictly against the Sakovia Accords. His antics wound him on house arrest for two years and caused Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Hope (The Wasp) to be on the run from the feds. They had been preparing for something large in the Quantum Realm for the past couple of years and buying black market parts from a sleezeball (Walton Goggins) named Sonny Burch. When Burch realizes who has been buying from him, he tries reneging on the deal. Enter The Wasp in action. Problem is..someone else wants that part as well and we see some crazy ghost-like martial action with gas-like body parts of whom they call Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen).

The storyline follows multi-linear timelines from the Quantum Realm and a rescue mission, avoiding a very nosy FBI who are eager to close in on Scott’s final 3 days of house arrest, Ghost and why they’re interested in quantum physics, as well as the importance of family. So..how do you wrap all of that up and keep it interesting? Only Marvel can and Marvel did!

This movie is better than the first on many levels. Lilly kicks so much ass as The Wasp and Michael Peña’s Luis character is at his finest! Trust…
the truth serum scene will have you in stitches!
The action is top-notch with everybody fighting for space. Giant Man was impressive as well as half-shrunken Scott! Don’t worry..I’m not giving anything away and would never do that but you have to see it to not only believe it but to appreciate the work that went into this movie. Is it an action flick or a comedy,..who knows? Just know it’s not a movie you only want to see once.

Lastly…the ending! They’re always keeping you on their toes over at Marvel and makes you excited to see where the story follows next. New villains, new stories, new characters, and yet as we get older, we still want to keep them coming! Let us know what you think of Ant-Man and the Wasp! Was it better than the first movie? Is there anyone cuter than Scott’s daughter? The world may never know!
