It seems there’s been a debate forever regarding men and chivalry. If you ever listened to Willie D of the Geto Boys say it, then chivalry is a scam (according to “I’m Not A Gentleman”). But women generally love to be catered to by having their doors opened and chairs pulled out for them. As noted by some, it shows class and respect for their lady. Someone like Bethany Casey in a HuffPost article stated how she’s glad chivalry is dead but being a gentleman should aways be in good order. So, that means, both aren’t exact duplicates of each other. So, maybe they’re just related.
Chivalrous acts were done in medieval times by knights as a religious and moral code. Being a gentleman is simply performing kind acts for someone you care about and in guy code: largely to impress them. So, while men are busy dropping their coats in the rain to avoid their lady stepping in puddles (nobody does that, by the way), what is it women offer in return? If you ask a woman to give you a curtsey, she’ll probably put her fist through your mouth. To her, it’s demeaning. So, is opening a door or pulling out a chair just a woman controlling a man? Is this act a way a man can feel masculine without really trying?
Let’s have a fun discussion on what men get in return for their chivalrous acts in 2018. For some, they expect a lot more than a wink. For some women, they feel their company is enough to justify the lovely gestures. Let’s talk about it!
