How Can Legalizing Prostitution Be Considered Beneficial? #136

Prostitution – Been Around For A Minute

Prostitution is the oldest profession in the world and business will remain consistent as long as humans have a need to satisfy their sexual appetite. So if the demand will always remain, why not consider delivering the product in a legal form where both the producer and the customer can conduct business in a safe and protected enviornement? Or would legalizing prositition promote immorality, corrupt the santucatary of marriage, promote perversion, and increase the rate of sexual transmitted diseases?

Leave The Light On

An example of a country that has legalized prostition is the Netherlands and the famous “Red Light District” is an international destination for sex tourism. The Dutch government legalized prostition in 2000 with the goal to protect female prostitutes by giving them work permits. In 2008, the city of Amsterdam reported 142 licensed brothels with 500 window displays of prosititutes accounted for $100 million dollars in sexual transations which is taxed by the government.

Should We or Shouldn’t We?

The U.S. currently classifies prositition as an illegal activity. Would legalizing prostitution reduce the amount of people incarcerated that participated in this industry? Some believe it would and some in countries where it is legal say other criminal activities have increased in spite of the law. Should the U.S. consider legalizing prostitution on a national scale? Nevada is the only state that allows prostitution (only is particular rural cities) and they seem to have a good grasp on balancing the business with the vice. Let’s talk about this further and see where we take this subject.
