Cultural appropriation exists. It seems a faction of the United States who benefits from it and has very little of their own culture to offer aren’t keen on being called out of their privilege. When two women went to Mexico to steal the recipes of the local women and bring it back to Portland, Oregon to start up a business, they were called out on their cultural theft and eventually, they closed their business. That left some cheering and others angered. But how far does it go? Halloween costumes, Miley Cyrus, grills…all the way up to slang used until they’re done with it. Borrowing from a culture to advance yourself is an issue. Culture Vultures are real. Let’s talk about it.
